In years past I have had some lovely varieties of thyme. I have used it as ground cover between rocks and enjoyed watching it spread year after year. It seems I have never lacked thyme before so to not have any seems odd. After telling numerous people that “I needed thyme” for the past few weeks, I pause to listen to myself and…
to hear what the Father is saying, “YES, MISTY YOU NEED TO PLANT TIME”.
I have met with my Husband and Father in the garden year after year and this year would be no different.
As single mothers we manage each day as it comes and often live ‘crisis to crisis’. Although I have learned to be attentive to being present with my children while they were young, as they have grown I have found ‘old habits really do die hard’ and this old habit of filling my time and living from moment to moment is still a consuming fire that will lead to death. However, Deuteronomy 4:24 tells us: For the Lord your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God.
He is jealous and He is calling us, His daughters to plant and cultivate TIME with Him.
We can use the same principals we learned as children to keep from being consumed by the fire of His jealousy and allow the passion of His heart to burn off everything in our lives that is hindering us from knowing Him.
- Stop: choose to stop living life the way you have been living it. We get to make that choice, it feels like life is bearing down and we don’t have the freedom to make the choice but we do. We choose how we spend our money, how we spend our time,
- Drop: drop to your knees, every battle begins and ends in the place of prayer and if we are not looking to the one who is outside of time to help us manage our time, the One who sees the end from the beginning to help us plan a roadmap for the future…we will get burned.
- Roll: Yep, don’t take life to seriously. Spend some floor time with your kids, find a grassy hill and roll down the hill, go buy or make a kite and enjoy an afternoon in the park; and don’t forget to PLANT SOME THYME…
Is the Father inviting you to PLANT TIME this summer? Is the One who is the All Consuming Fire burning away the distractions that keep you from Him? How can you partner with His heart?
Take an hour to look ahead to the next 3 months. What is one thing you can STOP so you can take time to DROP and ROLL so you PLANT SOME TIME in your life?
