In a society that is looking everywhere for principle, leadership, and ethics. . . in business, in politics, in the church, where do we turn? I would argue that where we need to find those concepts, first and foremost, is in the family. That is where it all must begin. And it must begin with us husbands and fathers to be the godly leaders that God expects us to be. When society is failing, it is because the family is failing. When the family is failing, it is because fathers in this society aren’t doing what they are supposed to. So what’s a dad to do?
God calls us as men, husbands and fathers, to lead spiritually. God has given us precious families to shepherd, to guide and nurture, to pray for and with, all the while being subject to the Lordship of Jesus. It is our responsibility to stand in the gap through prayer for our wives and children, to cover them with godly protection because there is a spiritual war going on. We would never put our families in harm’s way or leave them unprotected in any way physically, but they must be protected in the spiritual realm as well. We must teach our children how to pray, and how speak God’s blessings for themselves and for the future families they themselves will lead. godly
God calls us as men to provide. 1 Timothy 5 says that not to provide for one’s own family is denying the faith. It is our responsibility to love our wives, honor them, build a strong family based on the Gospel, and provide for all the needs of our family. God takes this responsibility seriously, the scripture here does not mince words. godly dad
God calls us as men to be teachers. We have minds to mold. We must honestly and truthfully instruct them on faith, family, honesty, patriotism, and how to become good citizens. Ephesians admonishes us to raise our children in the discipline and instruction of the Lord so that a foundation is laid in their lives to become successful husbands, wives, fathers, and mothers (Ephesians 6). That heavy responsibility is uniquely ours, and no one else can do it. To refuse this responsibility is to contribute in our own way to the destabilize our own society. godly dad
God issues a clarion call to us husbands and fathers. We dare not shirk these responsibilities. Our society depends on us making the right decisions. Dads, will you stand side by side with me as we guard our families?
Husbands, love your wives,
just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her.
For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it,
just as Christ also does the church, because we are members of His body.
