Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward.
Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one’s youth.
Because our time with children is short, I have chosen to make the most of every opportunity. I want to make this summer (and those that follow) one that my family will always remember.
Here are a few ideas for family fun this summer.
- Vacations- Choose fun activities that will appeal to all the kids. With four kids, this can be a challenge. However, as I plan a vacation, I try to pick activities that my kids will enjoy. One might enjoy the waterpark more, but then I look for a different activity that my less adventurous child will enjoy. Occasionally, you will pick something that everyone enjoys-for us it will be the ocean this summer.
- Free Time- Since the kids are out of school, what inexpensive options can you participate in during the day? For my family, it includes trips to the pool, bike rides, or trips to Lincoln Perk (our coffee shop) for snacks or drinks.
- One-on-One- I don’t know about you, but my kids are busy in the summer. This can cause stress or you can use it to your advantage. When three of my kids are having fun with a summer activity, I try and take the one not involved for a “daddy date”. This has included an ice cream shake together, lunch or supper, or an afternoon snack.
- Meaningful Conversation- I have found the summer allows for some spontaneous conversations with my kids about God, life, and their interests. What can you talk with your kids about today?
