We have the blessings of having Tara Dovenbarger guest blog for us today. Tara has faced many challenges as a wife and mom. Today she writes about being the mom of a special needs child.
Lori & Becky
Therapy appointments with three kids in tow; I can manage. Ordering medical supplies before we run out; yep, it’s done. Act like I know my stuff at our IEP meeting; I try to make it look easy. Christ-like patience and endurance for each and every hassle along the way…not a chance. I blow it.
Managing therapy, doctor appointments, and medical supplies is easy compared to remaining patient and loving when parenting a child with special needs. Irritation overflows as daily stress chips away endurance.
In our own strength, we are all weak and dependent on Christ’s power to work through us. Christ’s strength alone will allow us to parent our children in a way pleasing to God.
If you find yourself longing for Christ’s power to work through your weakness, as I am, this verse will help. The passage from Colossians 1:9-12 is made into a prayer, and through it, I pray you will be strengthened with all God’s power.
Please grant me complete knowledge of your will along with spiritual wisdom and understanding.
I pray the way I care for my children will always honor and please you Lord, help my life to produce every kind of good fruit.
Allow me to grow as I learn to know you better and better.
Please strengthen me with all your glorious power so I will have all the endurance and patience I need each day.
Please fill me with joy and remind me to always be thankful.
Thank you for enabling me to share in the inheritance that belongs to our people, who live in the light.
Praising Him through my pen,
Tara Dovenbarger’s deepest longing is to lead moms to never give up their faith when life pours forth hardship. Her speaking testifies of a personal knowledge of God’s faithfulness through her own loss of a child, near loss of another and painful years of marriage. Tara’s goal in speaking is to encourage women to tightly grip their faith in Christ during life’s painful circumstances and equip spiritually those who will face future trials. Tara challenges her audience to chose life in Christ by being faithful to His Word, no matter the painful trial, in light of Deuteronomy 30:19, “…I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live.” Tara would love to speak at your next event! To contact her please go to www.taradovenbarger.com. Don’t miss Tara’s video on YouTube.
