Being ocean-side is one of my favorite things on the planet. I know I’m not alone. And for those of us who live in landlocked states like Colorado, you can feel yourself yearn for the ocean when it’s been some time since you’ve gazed on the vastness of the sea and listened to the waves thundering on the shore. (The sound machine only pacifies for so long…) At my lowest point, I foolishly wonder if the ocean is even still there! After all, it’s been months since I’ve seen it. Could it be just a dream?
As I’m writing this, it’s mid-December and the snow is up to my shins. It’s about this time that I start to long for the ocean waves and the sand between my toes. And thinking of this glorious experience brought to mind my relationship with the Lord.
There is nothing greater than to feel the closeness of the Lord, to see Him at work, to recognize His miracles. And just like being away from the ocean, when we don’t take the time to LOOK for God in our midst, we can wonder if He is still there.
We tend to have these “high” experiences where we are close to God and we are aware of all He is doing in and around us. But somehow, whether by busyness or neglect or trial or passage of time, we forget God’s goodness. He hasn’t changed! He is as real as ever! But there we are with proverbial snow up to our shins, wondering if it was all just a dream.
So, be encouraged today. Our God is unchanging! He is still here! The Creator of you, and the ocean, and “every good and perfect gift” is as close as our breath and just waiting for us to come to Him.
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.
Are you feeling far from God today? What is the Spirit saying to you as you read Hebrews 13:8?
