A New Style Resolution (Thanks Beth Moore)

January 26, 2016 By Jenna Hallock

A New Style Resolution (Thanks Beth Moore)I need to thank Beth Moore for the great idea I’m about to share. (Let’s be honest, her Bible knowledge and wisdom has given many of us great ideas to share!)

Thank you, @BethMooreLPM ! @1C13P @FamTime #RaisingKids #1C13P

One January several years ago I read her Living Proof blog about New Year’s Resolutions and she said something that to me was profound: stop making resolutions and start considering specific words that get at the heart of what you believe God wants to do in your life in the coming year.

Just three words… Maybe even one word… these things will be the focus of growth in Christ, intentional prayer, accountability, and hopefully– by God’s grace–a transformation that conforms you to be more like Jesus.

Some words God has used in my life since this discovery have been: wisdom, joy, faithfulness, generosity, and cake {Just kidding about that last one… but I do love cake!} I can tell you to this day that by focusing in this way in the leading of the Spirit, God has done more in my spiritual life than if I had not been so intentional each year.

This new style of “resolution” has helped me to keep my focus on my love for the Lord and desire to be more the woman he wants me to be rather than behavior modification or motivations outside of spiritual growth. (Healthy motivations are also worthwhile, but secondary to me in priority.)

A new style of #resolution helps to keep the focus on loving the #Lord. @FamTime @1C13P #1C13P

Does this resonate with you?

Maybe by now any behavior mod resolutions are a memory anyway. Take a moment and ask God to reveal what He wants to do in you this year! Click HERE for a lovely downloadable bookmark to keep with you as a reminder and encouragement.

This is to my Father’s glory,
that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.
