I remember as a child picking up a flower and plucking off the petals one by one and saying “She loves me, she loves me not.” The outcome determined whether the girl you liked had the same feelings for you. This phrase he/she loves me is also consistently in Valentine cards and even candy hearts.
As we celebrate Valentine’s Day this month, we will be inundated with messages of love. For those who have boyfriends/girlfriends or husbands/wives, it can be a great excuse to express your love to one another. For others, it can be a very frustrating and painful holiday.
Whether you are in a relationship or not, I want to encourage you with these words: He loves you! God loves you no matter what.
Listen to these verses from the Bible:
Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. (1 John 4:11)
Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; for his steadfast love endures forever! (1 Chron. 16:34)
Psalm 136 repeats this phrase, “for his steadfast love endures forever.” 26 times.
God loves you and His love is steadfast and forever.
Unlike our love for God and others that can change based on circumstances, God’s love is constant.
We cannot do anything to make God love us more and we cannot do anything to make God love us less.
God is love! His love is permanent and never ending.
Rather than fret and worry whether another person is going to show love to you this Valentine’s Day, rest knowing that the God of Creation who made all things and who is all powerful loves you! Knowing He loves you is most important.
Once we understand His amazing love for us, we are able and empowered to love others.
As 1 John 4 says above, since we are already loved by God, we can freely love another.
Do you believe not just in your head, but deep in your heart that God loves you?
No matter what your circumstances, feelings, or beliefs say, the truth is this: God loves you!
