Guest blogger, Andy Peterson, has an incredible story. He was attacked while hiking in the foothills of Colorado (Yep…close to where I go hiking!) by a mountain lion. He lived to tell about it. (And…he would go through this again-find out why!) His book , Saved Twice, has just been released and you may want to check it out. In fact, your teen or young adult may be very interested in his story. I am giving this book to all my kids for Easter.
Recently, I had the remarkable honor of sharing my lion attack survivor story and being saved by God’s grace with a few hundred men at a large outreach event in western Tennessee. What was incredibly rewarding for me, other than the fact God used this time to touch hearts and change lives, was two other very important generations were there with me at this event. If you guessed my dad and my son you guessed correctly!
It was an emotional moment. My dad was the one who walked into my hospital room almost fifteen years ago, asked everyone to leave the room, and shared his best friend, Lord and Savior Jesus, with me. This was the first time in my life someone shared with me about having a personal relationship with Jesus. It was a moment I will never forget.
My ten-year-old son was baptized in Christ half a year ago as did my eleven-year-old daughter. What an incredibly fulfilling moment. I will forever cherish as a parent, to know my children have chosen, on their own will, to run after Jesus and live for Him! Gives me chills each time I share how my beautiful wife and I sat in church, surrounded by friends and family, with huge smiles on our faces as our children took that eternal step!
While I was speaking to the men (many fathers and sons), off to my right side sat my dad and my son at a table near the entrance selling my new book, Saved Twice. I fought back my tears of joy knowing I will see each one of them in Heaven someday. That moment wasn’t about how many books I sold or how much my speaking fee was. It was without question about sharing the love and grace of our mighty Lord God and witnessing to others!
For the eyes of the Lord range throughout the earth
to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to Him.
2 Chronicles 16:9
Everyone has lions in their life.
Whether that lion is a death in the family, an illness, or even an addiction they’re wrestling with. What is so awesome is how we can fully lean on and fully commit to Jesus as we completely trust Him to carry us through our trials each day. My lion was three miles into the mountains.
I would go through that attack on April 30, 1998 all over again to be on God’s path as well as the same path as my dad, my son, my daughter, and my wife. I know without any doubt we will all be together in Heaven someday enjoying the peace only God can provide.
What lions are you wrestling with holding you back from that overwhelming peace only God can offer?
Be self-controlled and alert,
your enemy the devil roams around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.
Resist him, standing firm in the faith.
