Lori & Becky
One glance at the world news is enough to give the average person heartburn and a restless night’s sleep. I appreciate the news channels, but boy wouldn’t it be nice to have a “good news” channel? Only the good news would be reported, like:
• Across the world, loving parents care for children.
• People reach out to help those in need.
• Rescued kitties and puppies given to good homes.
• Innocent laughter of children bring delight to listening ears.
• Sinners saved by God’s grace rejoice in their new lives.
• Broken hearts and lives mended and restored.
The headlines above may not be broadcast across the airwaves, but they are true. However, the enemy wants us to see the evil and the bad in the world and in others, ignoring anything good and focusing on hopelessness and futility.
The more we center our attention on the negative, the more we become disillusioned and ineffective.
Are you spending more time watching the news, reading or listening to the news of the world, above reading God’s Good News?
There is not a moment we are not surrounded by God’s love and goodness.
Don’t let the enemy blind you to the truth—good things do happen, good people do exist, and God is working throughout our world. And every moment of every day, God beckons us to spend time with Him and His word. God really does have a Good News Channel. Open the Bible and read the best news ever — God’s Good News!
Summing it all up, friends, I’d say you’ll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious—the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse. Philippians 4:8 MSG
Mining for Treasure
With the constant stream of bad news, please make a constant effort to be careful what you listen to and what is watched. For what is fed into the soul either shrivels, rots, or nourishes.
Paul warns us, “Do not participate in the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but instead even expose them; for it is disgraceful even to speak of the things which are done by them in secret” (Ephesians 5:11-12 NASB).
Heavenly Father, open the eyes of my heart and filter my thoughts through Your truth. Help me to focus on the proper praising perspective and keep spreading Your good news!
How can you guard your mind and help bring good news to your heart and the world around you?
