We have the great privilege of having Pastor Lisa Shaw guest post for us today. She is a mom and a grandmom, who has a love for the Lord and a huge desire to pass along a legacy of faith to her grandkids. Be blessed by her warmth and wisdom.

… when I call to remembrance the genuine faith that is in you, which dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am persuaded is in you also. Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
1 Timothy 1:5-7 (NKJV)
When my daughters were young they followed me everywhere. Whatever Mommy was doing, they wanted in on it. You know as a Mommy how that can be. Forget about privacy when you are using the bathroom, right?
Now, as a Grandma to my 28-year-old daughter’s children, in many ways the scenario hasn’t changed but in some significant ways it has. When I was raising my children the world was not as dark. While I loved the Lord and served Him, the intensity of that service has increased as I matured in my relationship with Him, therefore while I raised our daughters in the Lord, my granddaughters are benefiting from the level of maturity I have gained over the years.
I began to minister the Word two decades ago before my grand-babies were born so they are growing up seeing Grandma not only as their Grandma but also as a minister of the Gospel. They know however, that my priority is impacting their lives for Christ. I have the privilege and the challenge of teaching them how to love and to live for Jesus in the midst of a world where they will probably be persecuted for doing so–in a world where the lifestyles of some of their teachers and students is very different from what they are being taught by us at home.
It’s not enough to say, “Jesus loves you” I teach them how He loves them and why and what level of responsibility they have in loving Him back and sharing His love with others, even with those who may think and believe differently from us.
As a hands-on Grandma, I can tell you this…
They are watching.
They are listening.
They are taking in my walk and talk to see if they agree.
And so are yours. Therefore…
Be honest about what you know and don’t know. Children want truth not fiction.
Be quick to forgive and to repent for your own wrong doing.
Be committed and genuine in your Christian walk.
Be in-love with the God of the Bible not just on Sunday.
Lois, the grandmother of Timothy, was actively involved in his rearing. We can see that from the Scripture I referenced above. We also see that as a result of Eunice, his mother, walking in obedience to what was poured into her by her mother Lois, that both of these women had the privilege and the challenge to impact Timothy’s life as he grew up into a man. The Bible doesn’t mention a father or grandfather as a teacher. God chose to focus on the impact this team of women made on his life. God then sent Paul into his life to further mentor, prepare and send him forth into what God purposed for him.
You may not have the experience of a mother-grandmother team to pour into the children. You still have the privilege and the challenge to make an impact in the lives of the children and grandchildren. One of our daughters is on fire for the Lord and the other is out collecting her testimony. At times even when we pour into our children with a biblical foundation, they are going to make their own decisions but don’t give up loving and praying for them because they will return to the foundation that was poured into them. In the mean time, whatever role you are in right now—that of Lois, a grandmother or Eunice, a mother, make it count for Jesus.
Pour into those precious children and remember, they are watching, learning, and absorbing. Your legacy is being developed right now in their lives.
As a grandparent or as a parent what impact are you making on their future right now?
