Parenting l Fall 2017 Love Note Newsletter

August 2, 2017 By Becky Danielson

This newsletter is dedicated to our friend Jeff Davidson.

Friends, it is with great sadness we are informing you of the loss of Jeff Davidson. Jeff was a husband to Becky and father of Jon Alex (aka Superman). He was the founder of Rising Above Ministries and member of the 1 Corinthians 13 Parenting Team. Jeff’s strong faith and family devotion was inspiring. In great humility he shared his struggles, helping each of his readers grow in their faith by seeing things from a heavenly perspective. Jeff will be missed by many, especially the families in the special needs community. To find out more about Jeff and his legacy of love for the special needs community click here. To read some of Jeff’s 1C13P tender yet challenging posts click here.
With faith, hope, and love,

Friends,
This summer was filled with many big events, personal and professional.  Three weddings, 2 week vacation at the family cabin in Minnesota, time with my San Francisco daughter (YAY), being on staff at a Healing for the Soul Retreat in Colorado Springs, and a book signing for Messy Journey in Minnesota. A fun filled summer for sure… well mostly fun. While water skiing, I strained a muscle in my back. Not too fun. But if I change my perspective and look at life the way my friend Jeff Davidson did I would see the injury was a blessing. It caused me to be still and spend more time with my Creator. I’m looking forward to what God has in store for fall. If you want to contact me for a speaking event or parent coaching go to www.loriwildenberg.com. Or if you want to host a HeartCORe Family Conference head over to 1C13P and click the contact tab to reach Becky and me.
Love endures forever, ~Lori

Sweet readers,
Summer is a time to slow down, rest, and reset. The backyard “she shed” is almost finished. Little friends and their moms are already visiting the kitchen garden to pick tomatoes, snap peas, and summer squash. Catch the growth of the garden and the progress on the shed on the Faith First Parent Facebook page.
The highlight of July was a trip to Ireland. Scott, the boys and I rented a car and toured the backroads, enjoyed amazing food, and met wonderful people. In Westport, we happened upon Good News 4 U, a Christian bookstore on the town square. Pauline, the woman running the store, and I talked and prayed together for their new church and the bookstore where they give bibles to anyone who asks. I’m so grateful for the way He weaves His people together to share His Word!
With school starting, take time to read the posts listed above to get the school year off to a great start. Contact me if you’d like to schedule a parent consultation or a speaking event. May your fall be filled with faith, hope, and love!

If you have a prodigal, were a prodigal, or know someone who has a prodigal you need this book. You will find help, healing, and hope in these pages. Go to Amazon or your favorite spot to buy books.

From a reader: ” I just finished this book & it was so timely for me personally! She could have been writing about my own messy journey with my child, it was that closely mirrored but she also touches on just about every possible scenario we may encounter with our children, not just sexual lifestyle choices. Found within her words is wisdom along with permission & freedom to feel the very normal emotions we feel without judgement or condemnation. It is full of hope & healing for the broken hearts & relationships we experience along the way. It is so relatable & came at a time when I am stepping into another messy journey with another child, only this time I feel a little more equipped to deal with the situation, the emotions, & the pain of the journey. You can bet that this book will stay close to me the entire way. She gives examples of prodigal prayers that give me words to pray for my child when words fail me & that added resource alone is incredibly valuable to me. God’s timing in placing this in my hands now is just more proof that He is right there with me on this new journey just as He was on the previous one, only this time with added resources. We are all on a messy journey in some way or another because raising kids is, quite simply, messy & Lori’s book gives voice, clarity, & validation to what that journey looks & feels like & encouragement to trust God with all of it. I truly believe this book is God-inspired & God-infused & offers healing to a whole lot of broken & hurting people, parents & prodigals alike.”

Hey Friends,
May was a really exciting month! My book, (published by New Hope)  Messy Journey, How Grace and Truth Offer the Prodigal a Way Home was launched. Waterstone Community Church in Littleton, Colorado held a book release and signing party. It was so great to have friends, family, and church members celebrate with me and with my daughter (Courtney’s story is sprinkled throughout the book). She and I recently did a radio interview with Dr. Juli Slattery on her Java with Juli show. We pray that parents never give up.

Messy Journey offers the tools of grace and truth to construct a bridge that offers the  prodigal a way back to the family and to God. Nothing holds a parent’s heart hostage like a prodigal. This book provides much needed hope, support, and encouragement to the mom or dad who feels alone on what can be a  very solitary journey.

Here’s a little blurb about the book: Messy Journey: How Grace and Truth Offer the Prodigal a Way Home is for parents walking the difficult road with a wayward child. With rare and raw honesty, author and licensed parent and family educator, Lori Wildenberg, her daughter, other parents and prodigals vulnerably share their stories. No matter why you have a prodigal or if you love someone who does this book will bring comfort, help, and encouragement. Practical grace- and truth-filled ways of navigating your relationship with a detoured child who is rejecting faith, dabbling in sin, or wholeheartedly embracing sinful behavior are given. There is hope. After all, their struggle isn’t really with you, it’s with God.

If you have a prodigal or know someone who does, this book will be a blessing. Please connect with me if you would like me (or Courtney and me) to speak to your church group about either general prodigal struggles (Messy Journey) or if you’d prefer a more specific talk regarding homosexuality, faith, and the family (When Belief and Behavior Collide: How to love your LGBT family member or friend with grace and truth). With loads of love, ~Lori

Happy summer 1C13P friends,
I wholeheartedly encourage you to pick up a copy of Lori’s new book, Messy Journey. Prodigals can be heartbreaking for parents. Lori offers hope for families with this wonderful resource. You will be incredibly blessed by her words and her love.

This summer is going to be fun at the Danielson home. A big project at our house is a “she-shed/writing studio” in our backyard. Construction begins when the college kids arrive home in May. (Like Faith First Parent on Facebook to follow the progress.) The project will be complete when we move my grandma’s desk in the studio. She was a HUGE influence on me as a Christian wife and mother. I’m grateful to have her desk to inspire me and remind me of her love.

If you haven’t checked out my new website, FaithFirstParent.com, please do! Sign up for my  monthly e-newsletter while you’re visiting.
Lots of love to you and yours,
xoBecky

Have a happy summer! We will catch back up with you in the fall. If you need us before then we do offer parent consulting services. Go to our Contact Page and let us know how we can help.
With faith, hope, and love,
Lori & Becky

An Important Letter to Our Beloved Readers

February 28, 2017 By Lori Wildenberg

There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under the heavens.
Ecclesiastes 3:1

A Letter To Our Loyal and Beloved Readers,

We wanted you to know that things are changing over at 1C13P. Just as our parenting approach tends to be somewhat fluid, so does ministry. We want to respond effectively to your needs.

Thank you inviting us– at 1C13P –into your homes almost every day of the week and allowing us to share in your parenting journey. It has been a joy to walk alongside you as you do your most important job–raising kids. But we don’t want to be like that pesky house guest that just NEVER leaves. Parents are busy. We know when we look at our inboxes, we can become overwhelmed with all in information virtually flooding our mail.

IT’S. TOO. MUCH.

We are shifting our focus from the blog to  broadening our “hands-on” Parent Ministry (conferences, seminars, private parent consulting and coaching), while continuing to provide you with excellent parenting resources.

What is changing?

Glad you asked! So… here’s the plan! You will ONLY get a 1C13P LOVE NOTE Newsletter from 1Corinthians13Parenting one time per quarter. Yep…only 4 times a year. This newsletter is written keeping your uniqueness in mind.  There will be five sections for you to browse and various articles for you to choose from in the following categories: Seasonal, Little Kids, Big Kids, Special Topics, and Faith and Inspiration. You will be able to click on the items that pertain only to you and your phase of parenting. And we will be offering a freebie in each newsletter–a gift from us to you!

OK here’s the What if…

What if there is time sensitive information to be shared that doesn’t match the quarterly schedule? Well in that case we will send you a 1C13P Newsflash.  So yes, there may be occasions when this occurs.

Visit the 1C13P website when…

…you need specific information on a certain topic (for example: spanking, kids dating, marriage, single parenting, etc) head over to the www.1Corinthians13Parenting.com website and in the search box–plug in  or on the side bar– click your special topic. A wealth of 1C13P wisdom on the topic of your choosing will appear. We are your one-stop-shop for parenting resources.

It is our heart to encourage, empower, and equip moms and dads. We believe this is the most effective way to do that. With you at the helm choosing the information you need.

So…what if more personal and specific trouble shooting is needed?

We are here for that as well. Just click on the contact page, insert your information and we will provide you with the details regarding parent consulting and coaching. There are times more personalized help and encouragement is needed.

Did you know our HeartCORE family conferences, seminars, and workshops can come to you and your church?

1C13P will continue to present HeartCORe Family Conferences. Invite us (on our contact page) to get the dialogue started. We have the breadth and depth of faith, family, and education experts to meet whatever need your church may have. We are able to gather a unique team to meet those specific needs. Or we (Lori & Becky) are available to do special events and workshops as individuals or together. We want to serve you well.

1C13P is about you. About your family. Your church. Your parenting struggles. We are here for you both virtually and personally.

If you want to receive a one time per week encouraging and practical article on faith and family, subscribe to Lori’s Eternal Moments blog. Her blog is published each Monday. (Click here to subscribe). You can find Lori on her website: LoriWildenberg.com and over on her Facebook Community Page, Moms Together. Watch for Lori’s new book, Messy Journey: How Grace and Truth Offer the Prodigal a Way Home, to be released in May.

You can locate Becky over at her new website, FaithFirstParent.com, the place for all your parenting firsts. Subscribe to her e-newsletter and read her blog posts. Connect with Becky on the Faith First Parent ministry Facebook page.

At 1C13P, Personally we relate. Professionally we support.

So..we will be visiting your inbox soon with our Spring Love Note Newsletter. Be watching for it.

With faith, hope, and love,
Lori & Becky

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. 1 Corinthians 13:4-8a
