I had thrown out a bunch of old bread all over the back yard, in hopes to feed the birds, squirrels and any other wildlife that would be hungry during this long cold winter. I sat back down in my warm and cozy home with a glowing heart-grin. I was excited to offer such sweet nourishment, and I assumed they would so desperately devour my generous gift. I just knew there would be a frenzy of activity to observe and I couldn’t wait to watch the feeding take place!
Not one animal showed up.
A few days ago, my kids came in from out back and questioned why there was all this bread all over the lawn.
I couldn’t believe it.
A month later, that food is still there. Not one bite had been taken. Not one animal had a portion of my plenty.
I was stunned. Why on earth didn’t they take the bread?
I look out my window right now, and see scattered slices of bread lying on the ground.
I wonder if God feels the same.
Help turned down.
A Savior ignored.
And he watches His children, with anticipation and excitement, waiting for them to feast on His nourishment and fall into His open arms…
And they say, “No thanks, I got this.”
And yet He waits patiently.
Watching His Bread.
Out in the cold…
And His children not fed.
They scurry around aimlessly hungry.
While His gift has been spread.
Are we teaching our children to partake of His food?
Are we graciously guiding them toward His gift?
Are we filling pews, reading bibles, accepting invitations and help and fellowship?
Have we truly eaten His Bread?
He offers it freely…
And yet, we see the cost.
Surrender to His Sacrifice.
Have your children witnessed His Grace living in you?
Or are we raising a generation of soul-starved soldiers marching into the battlefield of this world unarmed, without His Grace? His Power? His Love? His Provision?
Oh, dear moms and dads.
I pray not.
Are you hungry too?
His feast is waiting.
Show your children, how to partake of His Bread.
Jesus then said to them,
“Truly, truly, I say to you, it is not Moses who has given you the bread out of heaven,
but it is My Father who gives you the true bread out of heaven.
“For the bread of God is that which comes down out of heaven, and gives life to the world.”
Then they said to Him, “Lord, always give us this bread.”
